John Aveni

John Patrick Aveni (March 17, 1935 – January 20, 2002) was an American football offensive lineman in the National Football League for the Chicago Bears and the Washington Redskins. He played college football at Indiana University and was drafted in the 27th round of the 1959 NFL Draft.

Upon completion of his pro football career, Aveni returned to his home town of Glassboro, New Jersey, where he taught and became one of South Jersey's most successful football coaches in history at Glassboro High School. Aside from coaching his teams to many conference and sectional championships, he also guided many successful individual players, including Gordie Lockbaum, later a Heisman Trophy candidate, at Holy Cross, and Sean Redman, who went on to play at Penn State.

Aveni was elected to The Gloucester County, NJ Sports Hall of Fame in 1983.
