Luis Aparicio
Luis Ernesto Aparicio Montiel (born April 29, 1934), nicknamed "Little Louie", is a retired Venezuelan Major League Baseball (MLB) shortstop who played 18 seasons for the Chicago White Sox, Baltimore Orioles, and Boston Red Sox, from 1956 through 1973. Aparicio was one of the most dominant shortstops of his era and was the first Venezuelan inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984.
Aparicio won the American League (AL) Rookie of the Year Award in 1956. In 1959, he stole a career high 56 bases and became the AL leader in fielding as shortstop and the AL Most Valuable Player (MVP) runner-up after he helped lead the "Go-Go" White Sox to the American League Pennant championship. He was an All-Star for ten seasons an American League (AL) stolen base leader for 9 consecutive seasons, and a Gold Glove winner for 9 seasons. Baseball legend Ted Williams called Aparicio "the best shortstop he had ever seen". Aparicio was nominated for the Major League Baseball All-Century Team (selected as one of the one-hundred greatest players) in 1999.
