The 1955 Bowman Baseball Card Set was its last - as the Bowman Gum Company was bought out by Topps that year. The 320 card 1955 Bowman Baseball Card Set shows a color photo of a player inside a brown wood grain color television set.  I have really grown to love the creative contemporary design and character of the 1955 Bowman Baseball Card over the years.  Few people at the time had color TV’s in their homes.  The set for the first time had cards of umpires.

The dark brown border on the 1955 Bowman cards is particularly unforgiving on corner nicks to the cards and makes it difficult to find Near Mint cards.  The wall in the background of the 1955 Bowman Baseball Cards was at Shibe Park in Philadelphia - where both the Phillies and Athletics played that year - and also where the Bowman Gum Company was located.   Another interesting fun fact on the back of the cards is that the many of the players were asked who they thought the best hitter or pitcher in baseball.  While there are many different answers on who was the toughest pitcher of the day - almost all of the players felt that Stan Musial and Ted Williams were best hitters in their respective leagues.  Those boys could just hit!

The big money card in the 1955 Bowman Baseball Card Set is #202 Mickey Mantle.  Also included in this set are the first Bowman cards of Elston Howard, #23 Al Kaline, #179 Hank Aaron and #242 Ernie Banks.
