The number of cards issued peaked with the 1972 Topps Baseball Card Set of 787 cards.  The appearance of 1972 Topps Cards has received some criticism over the years, but I like the fresh creative look of the cards and also the touch of the “In Action” cards.  The 1972 Topps High Number Series begins at card number 657 and is nice in that many of these high priced cards actually contain recognizable players. 

The key rookies are Ron Cey #761and Carlton Fisk #79.  The Nolan Ryan #595 with a “painted on” Angels cap, was probably his weakest card ever.  Unfortunately, there was no Ryan traded card, but the 1972 Topps Baseball Card Set has some great High Number Traded Cards of Hall-of-Famers Steve Carlton #751, Joe Morgan #752, and Frank Robinson #754.  I would guess that 1972 was the only time four still productive Hall-of-Famers were involved in four separate trades.  Other nice 1972 Topps Baseball Cards include Roberto Clemente #309, Hank Aaron #299 and Tom Seaver #445.
