1887 Kalamazoo Bats Baseball Cards (N690)
The 1887 Kalamazoo Bats (N690) baseball cards measure 2 1/2" x 4" in size and are unnumbered. The set was produced by Charles Gross Co., of Philadelphia. The N690 card fronts feature a sepia toned photo, affixed to a cardboard backing. Below the player's name is the message "Smoke Kalamazoo Bats". The card backs are either blank or have a redemption offer.
The 1887 Kalamazoo Bats set contains at least 62 different cards, with others occasionally being discovered. The number of N690 cards in circulation is very small. One reason for this was that in order to claim the redemption prizes, the N690 Kalamazoo Bats cards had to returned to the company, thereby removing them from circulation.
