1941 Gum, Inc. 1941 Uncle Sam Home Defense Near Complete Set
| Year | 1941 |
| Manufacturer | Gum, Inc. |
EX - 5
This 1941 Uncle Sam/Home Defense set consists of cards #1-120. The Uncle Sam portion of the set is made up of cards numbered #1-96, while the Home Defense set consists of cards 97-120 (The complete Home Defense set consists of cards 97-144, the second half however, is nearly impossible to collect or complete). Gum, Inc issued the Uncle Sam Series in 1941. The Uncle Sam portion of the set focuses on the four branches of the military: The Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines.
Unfortunately, by the time that the "Home Defense" subset of cards was issued, America had entered into the War, which ultimately halted production of these cards (and explains why the last 24 cards are particularly scarce). Nonetheless, the Home Defense cards portay civilians taking precautionary measures in terms of protecting themslves from attacks here in the U.S.
This Uncle Sam/Home Defense set presently consists of 119 cards (we are missing card #41, but we are in the process of trying to find it). Aside from card #1,which shows significantly more wear, the cards in this set average excellent in condition (the high numbers actually grade slightly higher than the low numbers, which is rare). We've scanned some of the cards to give you an idea of how the cards grade on average.
