The 1953 Topps Fighting Marines set (R709-1) consists of 96 cards total, and this Near Complete Set contains many of those cards, each measuring 2 1/16� by 2 15/16�.  The cards were originally issued as singles and in panels of two, leaving some of the cards with four nubs on one side where it was previously attached to another card.  

The cards are arranged both vertically and horizontally, some use photos while other cards have detailed paintings and illustrations.  Fronts depict either action photos of training or artwork of key events in Marine history.  Card fronts also feature patriotic red, white, and blue borders.  Card backs offer lengthy write-ups that match up with the depiction on the front.  

The set is broken down into five different subsets:  Marines in Training (#1-23), Marines in the Pacific (#24-48), Marine Heroes (#49-70), History of the Marines (#71-90), and Marine Uniforms (#91-96).
