Joe Stripp

Joseph Valentine Stripp (February 3, 1903 – June 10, 1989) was a professional baseball player who played third base in the Major Leagues from 1928 to 1938.

Stripp was born in Harrison, New Jersey. He would play for the Cincinnati Reds, Boston Braves, Brooklyn Dodgers, and St. Louis Cardinals.

"Jersey Joe" Stripp was the last major league batter to bat against a legally thrown spitball, at the end of the career of Burleigh Grimes in 1934. Grimes was one of 17 pitchers who were allowed to continue to throw the spitball, after it was banned in 1920.

He died, aged 86, in Orlando, Florida.
