The 1966 Topps Low Number Baseball Card Set includes the first
six series, which is cards #1 to #522. These 1966 Topps Low Number Sets are
extremely popular with collectors, as they are a great way to get the majority
of the cards in the set for a fraction of the cost.
The 7th Series, cards #523 to #598, is NOT included in this low
number set. The excluded 76 cards of the 7th Series of 1966 Topps Set contains
only 4 Hall-of-Fame players (#530 Robin Roberts, #550 Willie McCovey, #580
Billy Williams and #598 Gaylord Perry) and is comprised of mostly no
name players, but this series typically makes up 50% to 75% of the
overall cost of a 1966 Topps Complete Set.
Another factor adding the cost of the 1966 Topps high numbered
cards is that many are still in pristine condition, while most of the cards
from the first six series of the 1966 Topps set were distributed at the time.
This gives the collector the option of low number sets in a variety of
conditions, depending on his budget.
The front of each 1966 Topps card is a color photo of the player
with his name and position in a color bar at the bottom of the card. The most
distinguishable feature is the diagonal band across the top left corner of
every card that states the player's team. The reverse of each card is the
player's statistical history and biographical information.
