1970s Football Cards
Topps was the only major manufacturer of football cards in the 1970s. Pro football continued to gain in popularity and many exciting young stars made their debut on a football card. Unfortunately, Topps did not have the rights to use NFL team logos on the cards during the decade and many of the players are shown in "airbrushed" photos of helmets without logos. Regardless, the Toops football cards of the 1970s remain a fun challenge for collectors.
The most challenging set to collect from this era is the 1972 Topps Football Card Set. The 3rd Series of cards, beginning with card #263, were distributed in such low quantities that their values are many times that of other cards from the 1970s.
