1907 Dietsche Detroit Tigers Postcards
This 1907-09 Dietsche Detroit Tigers Postcard Complete Set has 15 cards and was produced by the Dietsche Postcard Company of Detroit to commemorate the Tigers’ winning the A.L. pennant in 1907, 1908 and 1909. The Dietsche baseball postcard set features 15 different players from the Detroit Tiger and distributed for three consecutive years. The unnumbered Dietsche Postcards measure 3-1/2” by 5-1/2” and feature a black and white in-action photo of the player in front of a black background.
The 1907 Dietsche Detroit Tigers Set is particularly interesting because most collectors view Ty Cobb’s card in this set as being his true rookie card. Cobb is the only player with two poses in the 1907 Dietsche set. The Cobb fielding pose is significantly rarer, and considered a variation. It appears the Dietsche Cobb fielding pose was replaced with the batting pose early in the print run.
The fronts of Dietsche Detroit Tigers Postcards published in 1907 display a only player photograph, while the 1908 and 1909 postcards have the same photo, and also the player’s last name. The backs of the Diestsche baseball cards have a player biography, postcard legalities and a dated copyright line.
There are three Detriot Tigers Hall-of-Fame players in the 1907 Dietsche Postcard Set: Ty Cobb, Sam Crawford and manager Hughie Jennings
