The 1974 Topps Baseball set consists of 660 cards total, each measuring the standard 2 ?? by 3 ??.
This set marked the first time that Topps released their annual baseball card set in its entirety instead of as several series throughout the baseball season.  This new release schedule was an attempt to prevent Topps' baseball card products from competing with their football card releases.  Sales of later released baseball cards always suffered with the arrival of the football season.
1974 also marked the first year that Topps sold a factory set in its entirety.  The set was available exclusively through the JC Penny catalog.  This set also included the first ever "Traded" set, which consisted of 44-cards featuring players who had changed teams at some point during the year.
Card fronts include white borders and feature colored pennants on opposite corners of the top and bottom edges of the card that house the team city and nickname.  The player's name and position can also be found on the front of the card, filling in the space in the remaining two corners.  Card backs exhibit the standard biographical information and career statistics in a grey and green color scheme.  A cartoon is also included on the back of each card with a comical quotation.
This Near Complete Set / Lot contains no duplicate cards.
