The Angels came into the league as part of the 1961 expansion, sharing Dodger Stadium with the Dodgers and taking the name "Los Angeles Angels". Upon moving to Anaheim and into their own stadium for the 1965 season, the team became known as the "California Angels" through the 1996 season, and then changed their named to the "Anaheim Angels" in 1997. Before the 2016 season, the franchise went back to its roots and became the "Los Angeles Angels" once more, despite continuing to play in Anaheim.
