This 1977 Topps Burger King Complete Team Set consists of 23 cards. There are cards of 21 of Yankees players, a Yankees Team Card and a Burger King card, which contains a checklist on the back. The set were distributed in Burger King Restaurants, around the New York Metro area.
Printed by Topps, most of the 1977 Burger King cards are nearly identical to the standard 1977 Topps baseball cards, with slightly different pictures or cropping. The main exception is card #17 of Reggie Jackson, which is a much nicer picture than the 1977 Topps #10 of Reggie sporting an air-brushed Yankees cap. #6 Don Gullett and #20 Jimmy Wynn also have different pictures than on their regular 1977 Topps Cards.
This standard set does NOT include the #23 card of Lou Piniella. The Piniella card is a short print because it was released late in the season. The story goes that Yankees, owner George Steinbrenner, discovered that his favorite player was excluded from the original Burger King set and insisted that another card be added. As a result, the Piniella card is the scarcest of the 1977 Topps Burger King cards and not considered part of the standard complete sets.
