This 1961 Fleer Baseball Set contains 154 cards and is the
second of Fleer's Retro Sets. Each card features a photo of the
player on the front, while the backs contain the players' bio and Major League
Record. Fleer
followed their previous years concept of a set of retired Baseball Greats, 92
of which have been inducted into baseball's Hall-of-Fame. The 1961 Fleer
baseball cards were actually issued in two series, over two years. Cards
#1 to #88 were issued in 1961, and cards #89 to #154 were issued in 1962.
The players featured in the 1961 Fleer Baseball Card Set are
some of the greatest of all time, include: Ty Cobb, Roger Bresnahan, Lou
Gehrig, Rogers Hornsby, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Cy Young, Babe Ruth,
and Ted Williams to name a few. What is interesting about the 1961 Fleer
set is to see who were considered the best 152 players up tp that point in
time. While many of these guys have since been inducted to Cooperstown,
since the set was issued, there are many great players that are unknown to
today's fans.
