This is a 1954 Topps Scoops "Almost" Complete Set, that contains the majority of the cards.  The exact number of cards in the set is listed below.

A complete 1954 Topps Scoop or Scoops set consists of 156 cards, each measuring 2-1/16 in. by 2-15/16 in.  The popular 1954 Topps Scoop cards feature headlines and a short story on historical events that occurred from 1000 to 1953.  Some of the cards were issued with a black film that had to be scratched off to reveal the headlines.

One of the most interesting things about the 1954 Topps Scoop Set is that it allows us to step back in time and see the world as people saw it in 1954.  The 1954 Topps Scoop cards highlight the historical events that were considered important at that time.  Many of these events are vaguely remembered today.  If the same 156 card set were produced today, many of the featured incidents would be eclipsed by recent events.
