The 1951 Bowman football cards measure 2 1/16" by 3 1/8" and are designed so that several players from each team were grouped together, when sorted numerically. The set is stacked with cards of 27 players who would be inducted into football's Hall-of-Fame.

The top rookie cards from the 1951 Bowman football card set are #4 Norm Van Brocklin and #20 Tom Landry. Other future Hall-of-Famers making their first appearance on a card were: #21 Arnold Weinmeister, #51 Ed Sprinkle, #62 Lou Creekmur and #91 Emlen Tunnell.
