This was the second and final year for these big, beautiful cards that measured 3 1/8” by 5 ¼”, printed on thick cardboard stock, with rounded corners. Issued in a single series, the 1971 Topps Supers used different photos than the base set. The card fronts have a bright, borderless image of the player, with a facsimile autograph, while the card backs are similar in design to the base set.
Popular with collectors, Topps used the larger set size to feature some of the lesser known stars in the 1971 Topps Super baseball card set. As a result, less than one-third of the stars featured on the 63-card set, made it into baseball's hall-of-fame. This is somewhat unique for a vintage insert set.
