This was the first time that Topps released their annual card set in its entirety, instead of as multiple series throughout the baseball season. This new release schedule was an attempt to prevent Topps' baseball card products from competing with their football card releases. It was available exclusively through the JC Penny catalog.
The 1974 Topps Cards are distinguished by the colorful banners, that contain the team name and city. Sub-series include a Hank Aaron tribute (#1 tho #6), All-Star cards (#331 to #339), and multi-player rookie cards (#596 to #608).
