1939-40 War News Pictures
The War New Pictures set of cards was issued in winter of 1939 and into 1940 by Gum, Inc. The first series of 48 cards is in black & white. Various color versions were added. Cards #109 to #120 are extremely rare.
The 1939 War News Picture Set, produced by Gum Inc., contains 144 cards that measure 2 1/2" x 3 1/8". The War News set was produced on the eve of World War II, by J. Warren Bowman, as an effort to emulate the success of the 1936 Horrors of War Set. The War News set provides a unique insight into how the public thought the next world war would be fought.
