The 23-card 1977 Topps Burger King Baseball Card Set consists of 21 cards featuring the Yankees players, a Yankees Team Card and a checklist card. The set were distributed in Burger King Restaurants, around the New York Metro area.
Printed by Topps, most of the 1977 Burger King cards are nearly identical to the standard 1977 Topps baseball cards, with slightly different pictures or cropping. The main exception is card #17 of Reggie Jackson, which is a much nicer picture than the 1977 Topps #10 of Reggie sporting an air-brushed Yankees cap. #6 Don Gullett and #20 Jimmy Wynn also have different pictures than on their regular 1977 Topps Cards.
The Lou Piniella card #23 was released late, upon the insistence of Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, after he discovered that his favorite player was excluded from the original set. As a result, the Piniella card is the scarcest of the 1977 Topps Burger King cards and not considered part of the standard complete sets.
