1909-11 Colgan's Chips (E254)

The 1909-11 Colgan's Chips "Stars of the Diamond" set (E254) is one of the most unique pre-war baseball card sets due to its circular design.  A black and white image of the player's head is set on a round disk, that is 1 7/16" in diameter.  A chip, with the player's image, was inserted in packages of 10 "chips" of either violet or mint flavored gum, that sold for a nickel per pack.

The Colgan's Chips were distributed from 1909 to 1911, and features a total of 225 different players.  The chips were sometimes used different fonts or updated when players changed teams, giving the set numerous minor variations.  The chips in this obscure set is unnumbered and contains a multitude of Hall of Fame players including: Home Run Baker, Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker and Honus Wagner.
