1973 Topps Baseball Cards
The 1973 Topps set was reduced to 660 standard-size cards, and was the last vintage baseball card set issued in series throughout the season. Reduced by 127 cards from the previous year, the 1973 Topps set has fewer no-name players and less subsets. The League Leaders (#61 to #68) were combined to show the leaders of both leagues on the same card, and the Playoff Highlights cards (#201 and #202) no longer features each game. The 1973 Topps set has 98 cards that feature action shots of the player.
The 1973 Topps Rookie Stars (#601 to #616) sell at a premium. Each Rookie Stars card has 3 players, that are grouped by position, instead of by team. With players from 3 different teams, each card now belongs to 3 different team sets. Further increasing the scarcity and cost was that the rookie cards were issued in the 7th series. The key 1973 Topps are the Rookie Cards of Hall-of-Famers: #174 Goose Gossage and #615 Mike Schmidt.
