1940 Play Ball (R335) Baseball Cards
The 1940 Play Ball Baseball Card Set contains 240 cards, each measuring 2 1/2" x 3 1/8". Containing Black & White, simular to the previous year, the 1940 Play Ball cards added an ornate frame and the player's name. With the most cards of any Play Ball set, the 1940 issue also featured retro cards of several great players from the past.
The big 3 star cards in the 1940 Play Ball set are: #1 Joe DiMaggio, #27 Ted Williams and #225 Shoeless Joe Jackson. The large, star packed set contains a total of 61 future Hall-of-Famers, including: #7 Bill Dickey, #40 Hank Greenberg, #41 Charlie Gehringer, #87 Carl Hubbell, #88 Mel Ott, #120 Walter Johnson, #133 Jimmie Foxx, #168 Honus Wagner, #175 Christy Mathewson and #237 Willie Keeler.
Cards #181 through #240 were issued in smaller numbers and are harder to find and more expensive to obtain
