1948 Bowman Baseball Cards
The 1948 Bowman Baseball Card Set includes 48 black-and-white cards that measure 2 1/16" by 2½". As the first national baseball card issue after WWII, the 1948 Bowman set has quite a few quirks.
All of the 1948 Bowman cards are considered "Rookie Cards" and 27 of the 48 cards feature players from New York teams. Because the 48-card set was printed on two 36-card sheets, one-half the 1948 Bowman cards have twice the population of cards than the other half of the set. One-half of the short-printed 1948 Bowman cards are the last 12 cards in the set, cards #37 to 48, and are sometimes also referred to as high-numbers.
Nine members of the Hall-of-Fame have 1948 Bowman Rookie Cards, including: #6 Yogi Berra, #8 Phil Rizzuto, #18 Warren Spahn, #36 Stan Musial, and #38 Red Schoendienst.
